winemaker's notes
The fruit for this wine was sourced from the Rowland Flat sub-region of the Barossa Valley. This elevated vineyard is owned by the James Mattner and family. As with our Grenache generally we cold soaked the fruit for approximately 4 days and open vat fermented for around 10 days. It was basket pressed and then into mainly 2-year seasoned French Oak where it received a further 18 months maturation. It was racked and returned to oak twice before being bottled unfiltered. The wine shows as a complex and elegant style that is surprising for a wine at 15.3% a/v. None the less there is a strength and flavour length that is immediately attractive.
